Moving Iron & Moving Coil Meters

Moving Iron Instruments are generally used for measuring AC Voltages and Currents. A feature of the moving element is that it is fitted with synthetic sapphire jewels. The movement is light and quick-acting, but extremely robust. An efficient system of fluid damping is employed. The movement is efficiently shielded against the effect of external magnetic fields.


Moving Coil Instruments are used for measuring DC values. They can be used too on AC systems , if the input is fed through bridge rectifiers. A Centre magnet system is incorporated in our moving coil instruments which completely shields the movement from the effect of external magnetic fields. The movement is pivoted between synthetic sapphire jewel bearings for frictionless operation.


The above meters can be used for higher ranges by using necessary Current and Potential transformers, and external shunts, Accuracy Class: 1 to 1.5% as per ISS 1248/83, we also manufacture.


MOVING IRON AMMETERS
Range: 50mA to 100A Self contained and higher ranges via current transformers, with secondary 1A or 5A.Overload scales 2.3 or 4 & 6 times rated load can be provided.

Range: 50V to 600V Self contained and higher ranges, using PTs.

BIMETALLIC MAXIMUM DEMAND METERS

NIPPEN Bimetallic maximum demand ammeters with integration times of 15 or 30 minutes. with utilities increasingly being vigilant about such demand that influences billing of energy consumed, are increasingly sought in panels. There are two models to choose from. Model MD-96 has only a slave pointer attached to the bimetal movement. In Model MD-96S, the instantaneous values ,can also be monitored in addition to the maximum demand values, by the additional moving iron movement.

FREQUENCY METERS

    NIPPEN's Frequency Meters are of two types:

  • Vibrating Reed Type Frequency Meters.
  • Transducer Type, Pointer Frequency Meters.

VIBRATING REED TYPE FREQUENCY METERS
The vibrating reed frequency meter has steel reed elements placed in the field of an electromagnet. The reeds vibrate in resonance with the energizing Alternating Current of this electromagnet. Meters are manufactured having 11, 13 or 21 reeds. Only the individual reed, whose natural frequency corresponds with the frequency of the A.C. supply, will vibrate at full amplitude indicating the correct frequency on the dial. When two reeds show deflection of the same amplitude the mean of the two gives the correct frequency.

TRANSDUCER TYPE POINTER FREQUENCY METERS
The Specification is same as that of the Vibrating Reed Type Frequency Meters.

Phase Sequence Meters

These meters measure sequences of 3 phase power lines. Suitable for operating on 50-500V AC and 40-65Hz, they are housed in 96mm square cases. The phase sequence is indicated by the direction of rotation of the disc.

Analogue Insulation Testers (Abs / Metal Body)

NIPPEN's Insulation Testers are used for direct reading of insulation resistance of electrical rotating machines, power distribution lines, communication cables, insulators , control and switching equipment etc. They are robust instruments, incorporating a built-in-hand driven generator and a solid-state circuit for a stabilized D.C. output.

NIPPEN Insulation Testers meet the requirements of Indian Standard Specifications IS.2992-1987 for Insulation resistance measuring instruments.


    These instruments are supplied in two types of cases:

  • An injection moulded ABS plastic case, where the unique geometry of the cabinet makes it practically unbreakable due to accidental falls and bumps.
  • A sturdy and elegant Aluminium cast case with carrying handle which makes the instrument conveniently portable.

The tester has two sections and is dust free. The rotary magnet type generator runs smooth with minimum noise because of the excellent dynamic balance of rotating parts.

ANALOGUE INSULATION TESTERS (HIGH VOLTAGE HAND OPERATED)

NIPPEN's Earth Resistance Testers are used for measuring earth electrode resistance, soil resistance, earth continuity, neutral and earth loop resistance, resistance of various components etc.

Direct reading type models SET/DET/TET provide direct readings of resistance on moving coil type meters, having a linear scale, 70mm long knife edge pointer and an external zero adjustment.

Current Transformers

    The basic application of current transformers are:

  • Lowering the very high primary current passing through bus bars, cables, or wires to 5A or 1A, a measurable quantity by measuring instruments.
  • Isolating the measuring instrument and protective devices from mains.
  • Reproducing proportionate primary current on its secondary side, as required for extending the range of the instruments.

Basically CTS are of different types:

BAR PRIMARY CURRENT TRANSFORMER (BPCT)
For Currents of 100A and above the bus bars or cables are quite thick and it is easier to measure the currents without breaking the bus bars or cable by means of a Bar Primary current transformer which can be slipped over the bus bar or cable. These CTs are most commonly used as they are sturdy, compact and more economical.


WOUND PRIMARY CURRENT TRANSFORMER (WPCT) For currents below 100A, it is uneconomical to achieve the desired accuracy by employing Bar primary type CTs and the solution is Wound Primary C.T., where both primary and secondary are Wound over the core.
